I resist but the door keeps closing, slowly. I try to hold it open once more, but to no avail- I release my grasp and dart through the narrowing gap, my body barely making it through as the door begins to close quicker.Knock…knock…knock. Banging coming from somewhere in the house- I think it is above me, in the attic. I’m not going up there. The banging is getting louder and faster, matching the precipitous beat of my heart. Then it stops. Screaming coming from the stairs- a loud, deep scream. Swiftly gliding up the stairs is my assailant, the poltergeist- its mouth open incredibly wide, the skin from the one cheek stretching with the widening maw. There are no teeth, just a black abyss of sorrow and malevolence. It looks like the poltergeists jaw is going to snap in half. My blood freezes but I react, I dive back into my bedroom, kicking the door shut behind me- I surge upright and force the sliding lock shut.
